The Faith and Trauma Center

Bringing awareness, advocacy, innovation, and healing into the intersection of faith and mental health.

Our Vision

Faith communities have a problematic history with mental health, responses to injustices and power dynamics, and how marginalized individuals are viewed and treated. These struggles have led to the evolution of a unique type of sacred wound that we call Religious Trauma.

At the Faith and Trauma Center, we believe that for cycles of harm to be broken, clergy and faith communities must have access to education, training, and resources to become more trauma-informed in their ministry practices.

The root of this mission and vision is our deep prophetic love for the church and our heartfelt belief in the divine design of the community. We grieve the gap between what the church is called to be and the many places where sacred spaces currently create division and demean the image of God in fellow people. The Faith and Trauma Center is committed to bridging this gap through our content, connections, and conversations.

In addition, we also recognized that as research and advocacy around Religious Trauma grows and more people become aware of the unique ways it impacts individuals and groups of people, there is a growing need for more awareness for mental health practitioners. We also recognize the need to have resources to support the healing journeys of their clients.

The unique combination of expertise and experience of our team as faith leaders and mental health professionals gives the Faith and Trauma Center a special ability to support those impacted by religious trauma in a variety of ways. Our goal is to keep the majority of training, resources, and research free or low-barrier to ensure that all people have access to this material.

We want to thank those who support this important work and partner with us to create change and catalyze healing for the many who have been impacted by religious trauma.
